Crown land camping in Manitoba, mapped
About half of Manitoba is provincial Crown land, most of it in the forests and lake country north of the farmland. This map shows where it is, the parks, and whether your phone will have signal when you get there.
What it shows
Crown land by forest tenure, parks, First Nations reserves and private farmland, so you can tell a legal campsite from someone’s field. Tap anywhere for the answer.
Signal per carrier (Bell MTS and Telus, Rogers) from licensed cell sites and the terrain, plus speed tests from other campers.
Game hunting areas and lands closed to hunting, in the hunting view, with a link to the Manitoba Hunting Guide.
Campsites, road ends and Crown land pull-offs scored for signal, flat ground, water and quiet, with the reasons for each.
Live satellite hotspots and fire perimeters, how far the nearest fire is, and a link to Manitoba’s wildfire and burning restrictions.
Save a part of the province to your phone, or all four, and the map, land status and signal estimates work with no service.
Camping on Crown land: the rules
Manitoba does not publish a camping day limit for Crown land.
- Camp only on vacant Crown land. Agricultural leases and cottage lots need the leaseholder’s permission.
- Provincial forests and wildlife management areas have posted rules.
- Parks: camp only where the park allows it.
- Fire and travel restrictions apply in fire season.
Land status comes from the Canadian Forest Service’s national land classification, in about 250 m cells: good for finding the big Crown blocks, but check near roads, towns and boundaries. Check posted signs and Manitoba’s wildfire information before you go.
Campfires
Manitoba and its municipalities set burning restrictions through fire season. The map shows live wildfires and links to the province’s wildfire information from every tap card.
